Default Internet Issues

I seem to be able to connect to the internet fine through the laptop I'm currently posting on, but I have limited connectivity when I try to use my desktop. (Trillian and Skype, maybe WoW, but browsers don't work on it. This just came up.) Is it possible that this is a hardware problem with the ethernet connector, or is it more likely a virus?

does the problem still occur after a reboot? normally these issues crop up in relation to firewalls

After a FEW reboots, it seems to be working okay.

open up your windows firewall's ports so it has access to your programs.

start-controlpanel-windowsfirewall-exceptions-addport

but first, you need to find out what ports your programes use.
