Intel socket question.

Are super socket 7 and socket 8 the same thing? i've searched but found no definitive answer, some places say the pentium pro uses the super socket 7 socket, while some say it uses socket 8. Id like to know this for the A+ exam I'm taking soon, anyone know?

no socket 7 and socket 8 are different. part of your info is right. the Pentium Pro did use socket 8 but it is not the same as a regular pentium. super socket 7 is a modification on the original socket 7 standard (by AMD) to allow a 100mhz fsb as opposed to the 66mhz FSB that was allowed on socket 7. i have never heard of any intel processor using super socket 7, as far as i know it was only used by the AMD K6-II and K6-III. although super socket 7 would work with the original pentiums and pentium clones from Via and Cyrix they would not use the 100mhz FSB that the K6-II and K6-III featured. how i know this much about old hardware i'll never know :/
