Install problems

I am not sure if this is a hardware or software problem. I just finished building a new computer and everything works fine, except: It has a problem installing certain games. The games it has installed run great. In one of the problematic games, the install menu comes up, but when I click "install", it just sits there for a while then the window closes. Another game gets halfway through the install and then hits an error and quits.
The games that do not work are all labelled DVD-ROM whereas the ones that work are all CD-ROM.

The computer has a Lite On DVD Writer, I have installed and updated all drivers. It has a Pentium D 3.4 GHz dual core processor and an XFX GeForce 7900 GS Extreme video card.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

It's hardware. I installed the DVD drive off the old computer and all the games worked fine. So now, hopefully LiteOn will either fix or replace the bad DVD burner. Anybody else have problems with LiteOn?

Your DVD rom is not reading the discs. I am presuming you are not geting a cyclic redundancy error indicating that the discs cannot be read becasue they aer eihter bably scratched or dirty? If no c. redundancy error then its that POS lite-on drive. I only use Plextor drives even though they are expensive!!!
