Default Initalize Disk

Hi all,

My g/f has been using an external USB hard drive to store her data on, but the other day something weird happened. She plugged it in and windows XP didn't read it. I went onto 'disk management' and it says not initialized!

I don't know what to do, if I click initialize will it delete anything from the disk or will it just allow us to access it again?

I'm gonna give this one bump up in the hope that someone can help?
