Initalize Disk

Hi all,

My g/f has been using an external USB hard drive to store her data on, but the other day something weird happened. She plugged it in and windows XP didn't read it. I went onto 'disk management' and it says not initialized!

I don't know what to do, if I click initialize will it delete anything from the disk or will it just allow us to access it again?
