Default IDE HD to SATA Motherboard

I just bought a new computer and I want to put my old HD in there. Problem is, it's an IDE HD and the motherboard only has SATA slots. I saw on ebay an IDE to SATA adapter. According to the auction it says I connect it into my motherboard. Is it possible to connect it to my HD and connect the SATA part to the motherboard? If not what do I need because I just need my files off that HD then I'm going to buy a SATA HD to make it easier. Thanks in advanced.

EDIT: Upon further review I have found this. I should probably just get this for now huh?

How can your motherboard not have any IDE slots. What about the optical drive. Is it connected via SATA as well?

Just plug it into the IDE part of your HDD, then give it some power (floppy power), then attach a SATA cable.

b1gapl: they make SATA optical drives, in fact, I'm hoping to get one for Christmas.

Yea I know that, but I never heard of a motherboard that only has SATA ports and not IDE.
