Default I think something is fried, but don't know what.

I came home from work the other day and went to browse the computer I left on. Everything was running really REALLY slow, and I thought it was strange, so I decided to reset my computer. On the loading screen for Windows XP (and the mobo loading screen at the start) there was this strange, I don't know how to describe except as 'static' or screen 'tearing'. It's white and grey, and is in columns like a checkerboard. On the next screen, it's red, and yellow tearing with numbers and whatnot in the boxes. I had no idea what was going on, and I turned my computer off again. It was unable to reboot, so I unplugged it and waited a few minutes. It wouldn't start, so I held the power button down for 5 seconds, released it, then pressed it quickly again. This is the only way I can turn on my computer now, and the screen tearing still persists.

I hear a beep when my computer starts, so I know it's not the mother board. I think it may be the power supply or the video card, but I'm not sure. That's why I'm here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's more than likely your video card, the odds of it being something else are small.

Alright, I'll take it out and run off of onboard, see if it still does it. BRB!

So I don't think I have onboard video, there's no slots for it on the back on the mobo. o.O

So while in the market for a new card, I stumbled across this: Newegg.ca - EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Better than my now fried 8800gt ?

Umm wow, I don't know what to tell you. 8800gt here on google shows it's a $300 card, so there has to be something special about it, wait for the more experienced people to come ok?

But if you do go with the GTX 460, and you got an extra $40, get this version much better, mines should arrive tommorow:

Newegg.ca - MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Refer to this list. Graphics Performance List

That GTX 460 would smoke your 8800.
and not only a little.
I agree with iceycold though, If you have the cash don't go with an SE get the real thing. Maybe not the 1gb though.

This one is faster than the one you linked and it's cheaper. Newegg.ca - Galaxy 60XMH6HS3HMW GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) GC 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
