Default how to unpartition external hd for pc and mac compatability?

Hi,

I have an enclosed, partitioned harddrive that was ripped from the loins of my now defunct Vaio laptop. I now want to be able to use it as an external between my PC and Mac computers. I would also like to unpartition it to become one big mass storage device, and I have no problem with erasing all the data on there. How do you suggest I do this (freeware solutions much preferred!!)? Please advise, many thanks!!!

If you want to unpartition it, just go have it plugged in, right click on My Computer > Manage > on the left side, go to Disk Managment > Right click on the partition you dont want > delete partition. Just make sure that you pick the correct drive!

Does deleting a partition create a big unusable hole in the harddrive or does the remaining drive take over full capacity of my harddrive? Or would I have to delete both partitions and create one big new partition?

Also, what does it mean when one partition is "healthy" and "active" as opposed to the other partition being just "healthy"?

(Thanks for the reply btw)
