how to tell the difference on dimm and simm on physical and electronic

I really don't know how to tell the difference between simm and dimm physical and electronic.

DIMM's have contacts on both sides of the module, hence Dual Inline Memory Module.

SIMM's have contacts on one side of the module, hence Single Inline Memory Module.

I understand the physical part but I don't understand of how to tell the difference betwee simm and dimm only in electronic.

It usually takes more than one SIMM to fill a bank, but usually only one DIMM.

I don't see how electronic isn't physical ...
