So I've built a few computers and installed a few operating system but this one has me completely stumped.
My room mate's computer was slow and had random red pixels in the black spaces, games would load but go all off-pink and what not. I wasn't sure what the problem was but we decided to reinstall his operating system.
I grabbed the Vista CD and went through the boot prompts. It got up to the part where it has the white loading bar and says "vista" then it got stuck at about 1/3 progress. I figured it was a bad CD so I took it and tried to run it on my laptop. Surprise surprise it was good.
After that I decided to try a linux OS (Ubuntu 9.10) and like before it would detect the CD, load it, but before it would get to the actual install half it would freeze up again. His hard drives are working fine as I can access them via an external HDD mount (but obviously cannot install via a USB drive). So now I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
