Default HELP! DVD-burner...

My old dvd burner went south and I bought a new dual-layer burner... sweet! Anyway, I installed it uneventfully. However, the computer recognizes the burner as a dvd-player and cd-player.. but, not as a burner?? There isn't any updated firmware for the burner that I can find and the icon shows the burner as a zip drive (at least the picture) under 'my computer'. Under device manager it recognizes the correct drive and everything appears normal. I looked for any 'ghost' remains of the old burner in safe mode to no avail either..... does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

In case anyone was wondering.. this is the Sony DVD+- RW DRU-810A

my computer is a vaio.

What do you use to burn, have you tried nero and see if it detects it as a dvd-burner or cd-burner.

Nero won't burn any dvd's or cd's but detects it as a burner. The unit did not come with a driver and Sony's website does not have a driver for the unit.
