ok our downstairs computer has worked fine for the 18 months we've had it then my mum comes to switch it on this morning and what happens is:

switch it on>POSTs as normal>Then Windows XP failed to shut down properly blah blah>select Normal it carrys on then BSODs and restarts and the same thing happens over and over again

I need help with this quick cos everyone has all their work on it ;) oh and id rather not format it

Cheers

sounds like some files on the hard drive were corrupted.

I would remove the hd and plug it into another puter...then run scandisk on it

update: backed everything up onto my drive...attemped to format and reinistall withthe disk that came with the comp and it wouldnt boot and we need the comp so i just installed vista :S seems to be working fine but if it becomes a problem we're gonna get an XP disk from somewhere

i ran chdisk and it supposedly corrected bad sectors but in all honesty i forgot to run scandisk :( but its working fine now just need the amily to get used to vista lmao

ok ill do it tomoz :) the HD is only 18 months old but is there a possibilty it could be damaged?
