Hey first post,

I just got a new machine, which is as follows:
Vista Home Premium 64bit
Asus P5b-plus Vista edition
E6600
Asus EN8800gts 640mb
Seagate 500gb Sata2
Creative X-fi fatality champion
2gb kingston 800mhz ram
Antec Sonata 2
Samsung 226bw 22" monitor

Anyway, the problem im having is i have installed vista and filled up my HDD with backed up data and other data.

Now what i dont understand is when i go to the properties of my drive C:
i get the following
Used: 452gb
Free: 13gb
Capacity: 465gb

but when i go into my C:/ and select all files (including system and hidden files)

i get a total of 418gb for all files in C:/

How is this possible?? .... is this "slack" as in files taking up whole clusters or whatever? (i doubt it is)

It just seems ridiculous that im loosing 35gb, that is unaccounted for.

some are used for paging , the bigger the HD the bigger the paging file is
BTW you double posted

I thought that if you viewed hidden+system files you could see the page file and that file should be accounted into the 418gb.

Also; a 35gb paging file?

I double checked. The page file in vista is visible and is currently 2gb. I tried disk clean and defrag and turning off system restore but there is still 3gb unaccounted for.

Im happy with the result, much better than 35gb missing. :D
