HDD dead or not

this after noon i turned my pc on and every thing went fine then i went out cut my pc off came back tried to turn my pc on and the hdd makes this sound like its cutting off and the desktop freezes so i reset and now it wont load windows it tries to load off the floppy and cd drives so i reset it again and again nothing works so about the fiftyth time i reset it the hdd starts making real loud clicking sounds and thats all it does i have tried reconnecting all the cables to it and it just wont do any thing
the hdd is a maxtor 80gb ata IDE 100 avout 6 years old
i just want to get some music that i have of it and a few importnt other progams i think i am just going to buy a new sata 3.0gbs hdd very soon
 
Yeah, I think its dead. Have any friends that will let you borrow their's to test to see if it isn't the mobo or anything?
 
hmmm. thats an idea but the mobo rechonizes every thing else
so what i'm doin now is ripped a WD hdd apart and hooked that up and now i am installing windows on that
