Default HD Gone

My Harddrive recently just stopped booting. When it is set as a single HD, the computer goes thru the bios and then gives the message, "A Disk Read Error Occurred, CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart"

I then tried to use a second HD as a master and the original HD as a slave. The computer goes thru the bios, into the boot page and then as it is going to load the windows log in page it just freezes on the blank screen right before.

Just hoping for a way to fix the HD or to recover my info from the drive. Not sure if this makes sense to anyone.

Any help is greatly apperciated.
