On my Compaq the hard drive light always flickers very lightly about once a second. I'm sure it is not virus activity. I checked my idle internet connections packets and it is normal. Does it at logon screen, not in safe mode. Maybe other computers do this to but I can't see it because the activity light is smaller. Does anyone else notice this on there machines as well?

Thanks

i got the same problem, and it sounds like you need to defrag / scandisk. take time to do regular disk maintence to extend the life of your harddrive and to keep it quieter too. hmm speaking of, i need to go do thoes, havent done it since i reinstalled xp about a month ago...

*edit*
dude, upgrade to xp pro, its alot, i mean a LOT better than home, thats what i upgraded from. xp home is a joke, xp pro is the way to go

I always defrag but havn't run a scandisk one. I'm afraid because I did it one time and it ruined XP. That was a while ago and a different drive. Maybe I'll give it a try tonight.
The price of XP pro is the real joke.
