Default Hardware Modem

Hello all...

I'm trying to find a hardware controlled modem so I can dial a ppp connection under linux. I have a box full of old isa modems and I think theres probably at least one in there. They all have lots of components on them, some have big speakers attached, some have big dark boxes on them labeled AT&T. Many are US Robotics and Cardinal with rockwell chips.

So i'd like to know if there's anything peculiar on the cards I should be looking for, or if there's anything for windows/dos i can use to determine.

Appreciate any insight
