thanks pzero you beat me :P. also just to point out a common mistake, after you've fixed the "barrier" don't be shocked when your hdd gets reported as 232gb. its perfectly normal. i think there is an explaination for that in there as well

you need to download service pack 2. i'm guessing the link you clicked on was the one about enabling 48 bit LBA? ahhh silly me, i forgot to ask about your pc. could you please list your specs. if your hardware is up to scratch then all you will need is service pack 1 or 2 and you're good to go

edit: thanks for telling me about the link, i'll have to fix that

there shouldn't be any setting in BIOS to change. i'm assuming you've already formatted the hdd? once it has been formatted it will stay at that size. you can try going into disk management and partitioning and formatting the left over space as another partition as is described in the 137gb barrier thread.

Ok i have found the partion now i think updates did it but when i try to create a new partion an error comes up:
The disk configuration operation did not complete. Check system event log for errors.verify status of drive. restart computer

I tried restarting.. same error ? what could the problem be

i'm sorry i am now almost as confused as you. if you have an old hard drive perhaps install the OS with SP2 on that and then install your second hdd and format it. that would give you your full 250GB/232GiB
