there you can download the .iso for ultimate boot disk it has more then 5 programs to test Harddrives On it I believe, it also has alot of other crap.

You gotta burn the .iso file to a blank CD R using DVD shrink or nero. I believe.

Its bootable. Ultimate "boot" disk

also depending on the manufacturer they may provide software to test their drives. you could run a burn in test using Si Sandra or something with some heavy filesystem benchmarking.

You can do it in XP etc. In My Computer, right click on the hard drive Icon and then go to tools and use check disk. However, there are a huge number of software programs that do this: If you have a Western digital, Seagate or Maxtor drive, et. al., they have downloadable utilities on their respecitve web sites that will allow you to do a thourough HD evaluation or there are programs like Hard Drive(disk?) Mechanic etc. Just Google "Hard Drive Test Software".
