When I try to install windows it will not format the drive.. just says "error cannot format" is there any other way to format it other than through windows? Im guessing the drive is bad but I figured id ask here first.. thanks.

Default Re: Hard drive reformat problem

I would first run Check Disk on the drive. chkdsk /r or chkdsk /f on it. See if that can try to repair the bad sectors. If not then you might have to cut your losses with the drive.

Windows wont be able to format it at that point. But you might be able to use a open source tool like GParted.
