hard drive problem :S

Hi,

i got a 40gb harddrive from a friend and when i install it, it works and everything but it's weird.
Like when i get into the harddrive, the window not responds for like 30 seconds, when i move stuff into it, it's very slow, if it takes too long, it says "cannot copy file: the device is not ready".

WHy is this?

Do you have ownership of the files and folders on that drive? IS the drive the same speed as your current drive? Did you setup the jumpers correctly?
