ok so i've had my current configuration of my 40gb WD as the master and a maxtor 200gb as the slave for about 3 years now. so this week i removed my hard drive to place it in a friends so i could transfer some stuff to his hard drive. well long story short he was running on SATA and i was on ATA so we couldnt complete the transaction. well i bring the maxtor back to my room and hook it all back up and its not being recognized at all. it doesnt turn on or make any noises. i tried running it as the master alone and it still wont recognize.

so is my hard drive dead? my life is basically on this hard drive. if it is dead what are my options? is freezing safe? should i just send it off to a data recovery specialist?

also i did try searching but for some reason i couldnt go advanced and i got a bunch of threads that didnt pertain to my problem.

well if its not making any noise then the power to the HD is dead , you would have to take a look at the soldering on the chip thats on the HD and see if any got unsoldered from the board near where the 4 pin connector comes in

is windows loading? and it's not being detected in windows. or is the computer not booting up at all, because it's not recognized?
