A friend of mine has had a Maxtor drive giving him a warning that it is dying for four years now. Everytime he boots his PC it says to backup your data because of a possible hardware failure, hit F1 to continue. Hitting F1 the PC boots and runs normally. He downloaded some hard disk utility programs and they don't report any problems with the drive. This is his second PC.
His question is, is it possible to just disable a BIOS feature or something to stop the message?
He isn't going to replace the drive, and after 4 years I think it's pretty funny it keeps working. I told him to disable error checking in the BIOS but he said it didn't stop the nag.
Any ideas? Or should he just keep dealing with it since he won't replace it?
