gvc f-1156IV/r9a data modem

i have a gvc f-1156IV/r9a modem that i want to install on my PC running under Windows XP.the modem came from an old pc running windows 98.
althou it says on the net that this device is plug and play compatible under XP(GVC F-1156IV/R9A 56K Modem PCI - Refurbished ($45.00)) i cant make it work.
on automatic install windos says it cant find the needed software.i have downloded some drivers of the net but when i says install from file windows says the same thing again.what is wrong???
i want to install this so i can send and receive fax.
anyone can help?
