Graphics Card Shuts Down When Playing Games At AGP 8X

Whenever I used to play games at AGP 8X my computer would give me a BSOD and would shut my computer down. Putting my graphics card at 8X setting was the only thing that fixed it. It did this with any game!!! Anybody know why???

450 Watt PSU
2 CD/DVD Burners
200GB HDD
about 5 fans set all over the place
Sound Blaster LIVE
5.1 Surround Sound Speakers
Windows XP Home Edition

Computer is custom built

Their will be no peforamance hit running it at AGP 4X.
