Games locking up

There is a problem with my roommates PC. It locks up only when he plays games, everything else is fine. He thought it might be a CPU problem so he replaced it but it continued to lock up on games only. Any one have a clue what it might be?

Possibly heating issue. Get some free temp monitoring software and a free program that puts your CPU through its paces (makes it process a lot of information for a long period of time). Check to see if the temps you are recording are within the appropriate range. My guess is they will be high, which is causing the system to lockup and stop working before the chip (CPU or GPU) overheats and causes damage.
