Front audio and firewire

I have front audio, usb and fire wire ports. my usb works fine but i cant get headphones or the fire wire to show anything up. i looked in the case and there all hooked up so i was wondering where i go to, to find out if there working proporly?

are you sure they are hooked up PROPERLY? i find them so hard to get right... especially if you have no mobo manual to tell you the order to plug them in etc.
