Default External hdd not working

I have a 500gb western digital my book (ide to usb external hdd) that wont work. I am using windows 7 64bit and when I plug it in, it comes up that the drive failed to install the drivers. WD doesn't have any drivers available for vista that I can use. I tried to google but I can't find an answer. Help would be appreciated but I am guessing that I might have to look around and find an external ide to usb enclosure that works with windows 7 and vista.

Does it work in Vista at all? If so then it could just be a issue with Win7. Being a Beta and all.

I dont have a comp with vista but i know carnage has one. Im thinking of getting an icy dock that supports sata and usb. It doesn't really fit my budget right now because I am planning on getting a evga gtx 295 w/backplate, but I plan on getting an icy dock this summer. Till then I will use my ide cable internally.

Newegg.com - ICY DOCK MB559 Series MB559US-1S Aluminum body w/ partial plastic 3.5" eSATA & USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures

Same one that I have I believe. Bit expensive, but very worth it. Like I told you before, don't skimp out on an external enclosure. That Icydock one has never had a problem. SATA only, but don't think that'll be a problem for you.
