External HDD being used as internal, speed question

Hello, I have searched this site, other forums, and Google, but I could not get the exact answer to a question I have. I have an external hard drive that does not have the USB adapter, mounting brackets, or a case for it. I want to go ahead and use it as an extra internal storage drive. The installation process is of course, very easy and straight forward, so no problems there. I want to know if it is being used as a storage drive with no other function, will I have any speed decrease in my system overall? I don't see this as being a problem but I wanted to get an actual answer from someone with more experience than myself.

* I just realized this probably should have been put in upgrades and not repairs. Sorry for the mistake.

Nope, no speed issues. If it's a 5400 RPM, then it'll spin as one; 7200 RPM, same thing. The only thing you might (slim at best) encounter is if the drive itself goes into sleep mode. But even then it will only take the time for it to spin back up again.

I've done it with several drives over the years.
