I have a Compaq Presario 700 laptop (from 2002 or so)...running XP Home with SP3. My USB ports are 1.1...
I just purchased an 80GB external hard drive that works in every other machine but mine. I went to the computer shop today and the owner switched the casing, and my laptop recognized it at the shop. I brought it home, the laptop recognized it, and I loaded the files I wanted. Then, the next time I connected it about 15 minutes later...it isn't recognized again. I am also using an AC powered USB port as well. Any help is much appreciated...I would like to fix this myself instead of going back to the shop. Windows tells me the "device has malfunctioned and isn't recognized".
Please help before I set my entire room on fire to melt these machines.
