Hi all,

I have been trying to recover the data on my old hard drive but not having much luck would appreciate any advice.

The External case I am using is a Dynamode 3.5" HDD enlclsure to USB 3.0

The hard drive is from an Aspire PC (Seagate 750GB SATA)

When I power it up I can hear the hard drive and it sounds fine. When I connect the USB to a PC ( my Sony Viao laptop or a Dell PC at work) is at first recognises something is there but no drive shows up in the computer folder.

It only recognises it as a USB storage device. I have tried a few file restoration software programs but nothing seems to pick up the drive.

Thanks

Any further info I can supply let me know

Going to assume you're on Win7/8:

With the external plugged in, click Start -> type "disk management" (without quotes) -> Click "Create and format hard disk partitions"

Does it show the drive in the list at all? If so, what filesystem does it show? If it shows a filesystem (other than RAW)/recognizes there's a drive there, make sure it has a drive letter.

If it's not showing a drive, then I'd suggest burning a Linux LiveCD (such as Ubuntu), boot off of it with the drive plugged in, and see if Linux can recognize it.
