external cdrom

I got an external CDROM drive that runs off the printer port, when I went to go install 2k it said "no cdrom drive detected, hit any key to escape"

What can i do?

it runs off a paralell port?
it won't automatically detect the CD drive if that's the case. I would have gone for a USB drive.
if there are any paralell to USB converters, then I'd recommend that. however I'd say you need to install drivers for it
