Hey,

So i bought an AcomData 500GB external drive and hooked it up via eSATA. I was able to transfer data from my internal HD to it but when I was finished, there is no way for me to safely remove the hardware. I try to remove it's simply not there to safely remove. For the time being I just disabled it under my computer properties and then turned it off.

Any ideas?

You never simply unplug any drive while plugged directly into the board even with eSata since the cable from the port runs direct to the board. You have to shut the system down first. This is why the error is being seen there.

Once you shut everything down the drive is turned off until the next power up of the system. The only external drives that can be plugged in while the system is running are usb since hot swapping is allowed there. Even that is still not advised since you still wait until the system is off before unplugging that type as well.
