I have a Dell XPS 400 with stock DVD RW (16x/48x) and DVD ROM drives. I've probably had the computer for about a year and a half now and it seems my DVD RW has taken a dump. Recently, it began completely freezing up during the DVD burning process and has drastically slowed down during CD burning. I used NeroCDspeed to benchmark and the DVD process came back at about 1.08x while the CD process came back at 11.53x. Are there any software issues that may cause this, or is it time to buy a new drive?

I'd try disabling those while burning to see if it works. Did you do anything different (new software..) when it started to happen?

Is your boot up time slower also. This can also be a sign of the drive going out. You probably need a new one.
