Ok my HP DVD writer 840b will not recognize blank CD-Rs. I have tried Sony and Memorex CD-Rs. The drive will read CDs and DVDs otherwise. It will also recognize blank DVDs, just not blank CD-Rs. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong, or what I could do to fix this?

What OS are you using?
Perhaps there is a problem with the blank CDs (very unlikely with both brands but possible); can you try them in another computer to check?
Would it be possible to stick a different CD/DVD drive in the comp to see if it's a software issue?
