Hello.
My DVD drive is not reading discs and cannot write to disc either. Have latest driver and Device Manager says it is working. Had the same problem with previous drive and just assumed it had come to the end of its useful life so bought this one. It is an LG.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Try a different cable and then try a different power connector. If neither of those help and the drive is good (can you test it in another computer?), then it must be a problem with the controller (which is built into the motherboard). Is the new drive IDE or SATA? You can buy a controller card but we need to know if you have a PCI slot or a PCI-E slot available in your computer.

This is a PCI-E card.

And here's a PCI card.

also you can try deleting the upper and lower filters for the dvd drive. ive run into this problem a few times and that fix has seemed to take care of the problem.
