I have a dell 8300 that ive had for about 2 years now and for the first time I got some blank dvds so I could actually use it and burn them but when i went to burn It kept saying to please insert blank disc like I didn't even have anything in there. Im pretty clueless with how to go about figuring out whats wrong with it.

Heres a screenshot showing the info on the drive. It says its just like a generic drive so im not really sure where to look for drivers that would maybe fix it or who to contact to ask about what its doing. 1 year warrenty on the computer is up so im not sure if dell would be any help to us.

The icon turns to CD Drive but it says DVD-R under the hand

Strange... Try starting off by making sure you have all the latest drivers and firmware installed. Also, there are a lot of help forums out there dedicated to individual hard ware components, I had to search through them when I had trouble with my DVD+RW drive. Check to see if the drive's manufacturer has a help forum, chances are someone may have had the same problem.
