This has been ongoing for weeks now. The CD/DVD drive on my laptop has not been working.
To be more specific, the yellow light that normally indicates that the drive is reading a disk is always on (and I mean ALWAYS, if the laptop is on, no matter what state it's in). The drive can't be opened normally (it has to be opened manually) and simply does not function. This happens on both Windows and Linux (I dual-boot Windows Vista and Fedora 13).
I've rebooted and shut down my laptop many times since I first noticed the problem. I have also tried taking out the battery for several seconds, just to see if it would do anything. But no effect.
Luckily, I rarely use disks, so it's not the end of the world for me, but I would still like my CD/DVD drive working. So I would like to ask: Does anyone have a guess as to what could be happening here? If so, how might I go about fixing it?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
