yes you can, there is no difference in the cable. the difference between USB 1.1 and 2.0 is in the controller (in your computer) and the device you use, not in the cable.

USB 2.0 cable allows for a faster transfer rate than USB 1.1. USB 2.0 Cable works with both 1.1 and 2.0 slots but it works at its highest throughput in 2.0 slots. I am not sure on the speeds but I know 2.0 is a lot faster than 1.0.

Default According to USB.org

According to the "High-Speed Performance Data" found at http://www.usb.org/channel/USB-PerformData-04.pdf ,"Any certified USB cable will support Hi-Speed USB, as long as both computer and peripheral are Hi-Speed USB compliant.

well accoring to google usb 1.1 supports 12mb/sec but 2.0 is 480mb/sec which seems a little high as fire wire is suppose to be 600 theres my two cents

I don't think the cable matters myself. I've used both on USB 2.0 without any noticeable difference.
