Did this hard-drive just take a dump?

Hello, here's my situation.


Power on.

"Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and replace
Press F1 to resume"

I press F1, and pretty much a flash of the blue screen of death pops up and computer restarts and says the same thing.



Is she dead? Could I possibly format it and save her? Thanks guys.

Sounds like the drive can no longer find data correctly... You can attempt a chkdsk /r on the C: drive using the recovery console on an xp cd... Other than that, the drive is dead, smart sees that it is dead, and you get a BSOD, so probably be easier to buy a new drive.

it possible to format, if your system will read the hd, if not you maybe be out of luck
