desktop problem!!

i have a problem with my compaq desktop pc, when i start my computer there is nothing on the monitor, the monitor ligh just keeps blinking and nothing shows up even though the cpu is assumed to be working. i tried the cpu on a different monitor but the same thing happens so i will go on a limb and say that something is wrong with the cpu, but what?

plz help, the desktop is abit old but can still be used by my lil bros for small stuff since they destroy everything. need help as soon as possible. has the hardrive crashed?

What operating system do you have on this system.Either way hit F8 upon boot and start in safe mode.See if that gets you up and running.If so then its software related.you can just reinstall your video drivers.
