Question Dell desktop issue

My friend is having an issue with her Dell XPS 8900. The power button doesn't work anymore. There seems to be a secondary power button in the back next to a green light. As long as I press and hold it down, the CPU seems to power up, though there is no output to the monitor. As soon as I release the button, it turns off. The main power button does nothing.

I've disconnected all peripherals and attempted to turn on, I've unplugged it completely and held the power button to discharge, neither worked.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

That button on the PSU is just a built-in self-test (they actually have an acronym for it BIST... dumb af i know)

The power button on PCs is really simple - there is an interface on motherboards that usually looks like this "POWER SW" connection

When the button is pressed it creates a circuit between two poles...

so if the button itself is bad you might be able to replace it with one of these:

You can test it by removing the "POWER_SW" connector, and shorting the pins with something like a metal screwdriver or something.
