you have better luck defragmenting in safe mode... i always do all my major adware scans, virus scans, and defragmenting in safe mode.
i started doing that when i couldn't defrag without it restarted every 5 minutes..
if you don't know how to get into safe mode, hit F8 after shows the harddrives in the system start up.
