Data recovery for corrupted WD External Hard Drive

I need help recovering the data on my hard drive. My external hard drive was recently corrupted. My laptop is on NTFS system and the hard drive is RAW. I don't really need to save the hard drive. I need to salvage all of the files I saved on there. Does using an encryption program like TrueScript work? How would I go about doing it? Is there a way to recovery the data?

connect it to another computer. Format it and then run a data recovery program like recuva to retrieve the data.
