Default D drive not reading?

my D drive which is a cd-rw drive is not reading when i put a disk in it or when i open up windows explorer to look at it, i have no idea whats wrong with it.
i use windows xp sp 2 home edition

how old is the drive?
how much do you use it??
have you added any drivers or installed any hardware recently?

i mostly use it to play games, so its used often
i havent installed any hardware
and there are no drivers that i have installed today, it was working yesterday.

the drive came with the computer and the computer is about 2 years old

what brand is the drive??? and what brand is the pc??? if its a dell I am not surprised if the drive has conked out

dell use cheap low-quality hardware too maximise profits. the laser has probably died so you need to buy a new drive. They are only about £20 or $30USD where do you live??

heh i live in jersey, o well looks like theres more hardware to replace, i already replaced 2hds, the memory, video card, and the power supply

never going to buy a dell again.

sounds like it would of been cheaper for you to of built by yourself it normally is anyway. my gaming rig cost me £1600 on dell the same computer with all the stupid extras was £3400

heh my next computer is gonna be a mac book pro, i use them in school and they kick the sh** out of windows.

linu is much better and you can use mac all beat illegally on a home built pc with standard compenents
