Default Curious optical drive problem

On my gramp's computer, we're having the problem that if more than one user is logged in, only one of them is able to make use of the DVD drive. For example, one user can put a CD or DVD in and use it fine, but for any other user, the drive just looks empty.

If a user who sees the empty drive signs out other user's accounts, they can then see the drive and its contents.

It's kind of annoying, and especially baffling. I originally thought the drive was on its way out, but that no longer seems to be the case.

Any ideas? Running XP SP3.

In the DVD drive Properties, what does it say under the sharing tab, Password protection?

(like your new avatar, btw )

I don't see a Sharing tab there. Is it only in Vista/7?

I think so. I take this is a XP system. Might be a fast user switching problem.
