CPU fan seems to be broken

Well, I have an intel E6750 dual core processor with the bundled HSF however the fan is only running at 860-870 RPM. The processor idles at around 42 degrees celcius but I have a friend with almost the exact same system when his idles at around 20 degrees celcuis. Anyone know what could be wrong??

i would believe yours is normal and his reading is false unless he's liquid cooling or using some method of thermoelectric...

idles temps should be 42...or even maybe in the 30s...but 20?

also, is your fan running auto? going slow or ramping up? May be determined in bios or a win utility, depending what you are using.

Its also possible that he has his fan speed set to a constant level. Most likely yours is still being adjusted by the motherboard to only rev up as needed.

Mine displays:
20-25 On Bios when running no processes
30-35 on Windows using software

I think this is normal.
