Default Cpu Failed

Alright, I have a friend that brought his pc of about a week ago and when he booted it up it said CPU Fan has Failed. So he brought it home and a day later brought it to where he bought it [best buy], and it worked right off the bat, clean boot. He brought it home and has worked ever since. He brought it here and its giving the same cpu fan has failed error. The fan seems to work if you flick it a few times while its trying to boot. I tried hooking it up in a different place and it still gives the error. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
