hi,

I built a sweet system about 6 months back and just noticed tonight that i connected both the separate SATA power cable and the normal legacy type power cable. It says on the drive (WD Raptor 74gb) that if you connect both types, it could damage the hard drive.
I have had no problems thus far and both have been connected for 6 months now.
Could it be that my Antec PSU has some type of safeguard against this, in case some fool like myself connects both?

When it says it could result in damage, would the damage be instant HD destruction or some type of slow meltdown over a period of months?

I did the same thing with my Maxtor drive months ago and when I contacted Maxtor they told me if the drive was functioning properly I was unlikely to have caused any damage. If you really want to be sure, email Western Digital, but I'd say you're fine. I haven't had any problems =)

ok thanks. i didn't think anything seemed wrong, but you never know. im guessing it would be an instantly recognizable problem, like the HD stops working altogether lol.
