Hi, i am having a bit of a problem. My PC has been working fine for the past 3 or so years...but yesterday I tried to turn it on and got a nasty surprise. Instead of booting up, it just sat there. It wouldn't even load the bios, the monitor wouldn't respond (it said no signal found) and neither the keyboard or the mouse showed any signs of working (my laser mouse always had the red light at the bottom, even when the pc was just starting up). There was no sound, no beep, that you usually hear when you start the PC, and the keyboard lights didn't flash.

Now, everything was getting power. My two CD rom drives worked, and so did all the fans inside, and i would assume the hard drives worked, but it just wouldn't start up. I was hoping that someone with a bit more knowladge of computers would be able to help me. At first I though it was my RAM chips...but I have three in my PC, and i think it is pretty unlikely that all three died at the same time. It's not the graphics card (if i recall correctly, BIOS loads even without a graphics card) and it's not the power supply 'cause everything is getting power. So, the only thing i can think of is that my motherboard and/or CPU failed. Could someone with more knowladge give me an insight into this?

let me correct those "cant" be possible things:
1) doesnt matter how many ram sticks you got,if one of em fails that all it takes it can lead to nothin on screen
2) you wont see anything on screen if the graphic card is faulty (the graphic card sends the picture from the pc to the screen so if it aint workin...)
3) just cuz its providing power it doesnt mean its providing enough

i'd say its the psu or bad mobo capacitors , have a good look in the mobo search for bad capacitors see examples
http://home.earthlink.net/~doniteli/index27.htm
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=195 , also disconnect the power plugs from anything unnessary (optical/floppy drives+case fans+any extra hd's and see if it powers up fine if it is then its defently the psu but if that doesnt help it doesnt rule it out. get a digital multimeter and measure the voltages with it see these guides
http://www.driverheaven.net/guides/testingPSU/
http://www.ochardware.com/articles/psuvolt/psuvolt.html
report back with the voltages , and if you will find bad capacitors its not a big deal they can be replaced at any electronic repair shop and capacitors are quite cheap so having it repaired shouldnt cost much and the mobo will work 100% after , and if youll provide full system specs ill recommend a good quality psu

hmm.. i would say mobo as well.. but to correct you jeremy, he said that there isnt any beep too.. so gfx card wouldnt have anything to do with it

you misunderstood , i was correcting what he said (he tought that if the graphic card is dead he will still see the post screen)
